SANDSATION 2010 from June 6th until August 29th
at a new location

From June 6th the sand sculptures will be back in Berlin. This summer, the 8th edition of the international sand sculpture festival SANDSATION invites over 20 sand artists (“carvers”) from all over the world to Germany’s capital to thrill Berliners and tourists equally with exceptional, spectacular works.
It’s SANDSATION’s 8th year and the festival goes back to its roots – to the Spree riverside in Friedrichshain at the O2 World. In 2003, the first edition of the event was located close by at the border strip at Mühlenstraße. Managing director Uwe Schwettmann is excited about the new location: “After six years at Hauptbahnhof, we as much as the artists welcome this change of scene. The site at Hauptbahnhof was difficult to secure for the future, so we are very happy to return to familiar grounds. We hope that the people of Friedrichshain will give us a warm welcome as they did before.”

The festival that has meanwhile come to be internationally known keeps constantly developing its concept: fantastic, metres high sculptures amaze young and grown-ups equally, a diverse gastronomy and comfortable beach chairs invite to relax and a great number of exciting surprises await the children. Around the spectacular sand art the festival presents a varied supporting programme with free workshops for junior sand artists, raffles and action days. The O2 World contributes with many thrilling events around the arena – SANDSATION will be right in the thick of things.

Between June 6th and June 8th the artist will allow a first glance at their unusual work. “Head in Sand” is this year’s theme and promises to be a real eye catcher. For the Grand Opening on June 9th the best sand sculptures will be selected by a jury. The audience will then have a few more days to pick their favourite sculpture.
